THE SECOND COMING– Chapter 3 (VI)

–*–
CARLIFORNIA, USA
——————————————
It has been almost an hour since Dale returned from wherever he went in the afternoon and as much as her curiousity is going overboard, Amanda tried to keep her cool so that she won’t look desperate to know where he went to.
“Have you spoken to Aunty Dolapo today?” Amanda asked.
“No.” He replied.
“That’s very bad. You should have at least called her to know how she is faring with Darasimi.” Dolapo complained.
“Okay, I will call her.” He replied sharply.
“Is that all you’ll say?” She asked raising her voice.
“What else do you want me to say? Amy, I am not in for any fvcking arguement this evening.” He said and angrily walked out of the living room.
——
Sitting down alone inside the car park, his back leaning against his red Ferrari his mind flashed back to his encounter with Kelvin in the afternoon. He remembered how he had put it to him that he ensure that he escape out of prison. He couldn’t think of a way to achieve that, at least, not when he is being watched by the government. He couldn’t risk returning to the prison for another jail term, but all the same, he couldn’t risk making Kelvin angry. He needed to work something out and fast, because of the limited time given, even though he knew that, if given a year to achieve that, he still won’t.
Maybe he would have to call his old gang members to assist him in completing the task, but to face them is a task on its own. He was once the leader of a notorious armed robbery group which has broken into banks, government offices, private homes, carted away money and valuables until they were arrested and subsequently sent to prison in different parts of America. But much to his gang members annoyance, he was pardoned after two years and sent on a twelve month exile plus rehabilitation. And now that everyone of them is out of prison, they still had the ill feeling towards him.
The only members of the gang who were cool with were the duo of Dre and Pete. And he could count on them to help him out, but before they could, the other gang members must consent to it, which means he still need to meet with them and settle all differences.
He was about resting the back of his head on the wall when a strong and delicious odour wafted through his nose. Even though he couldn’t place what it was, he knew it has to be something edible, because, only two things smell sweetly on earth, perfume and the like and the second is food. At once, he stood up and walked into the house.
“What’s cooking?” He asked as he entered the kitchen.
Amanda imediately dropped the spoon and covered the pot.
“I am not saying.” She replied smiling.
“Wait! Are you cooking or frying?” He asked.
“Frying actually.” She replied.
“With a pot? Is this how Nigerians cook?” He asked.
“No, it is called deep frying. Some meals are made this way. You use a sause pan, its get burnt.” She replied.
“Oh! I get it.” He said as he moved towards her and wrapped his hands around her stomach.
“You smell nice.” He said sniffing her hair.
She kept quiet and allowed herself to enjoy the moment while it last. She could feel a tingling sensation inside as he blew hot air into her ear and her neck.
“Stop it” She shouted as she tried to wriggle herslef from his hold, but he held her tighter.
“Dale, please.” She pleaded, but he still held on.
Maybe she would have to play along.
“So, where did you go to in the afternoon?” She asked a minute later when calmness had returned to the kitchen.
“Illinos.” He replied.
“Train or the airport?”
“Train, so I just rented a car outside the train station.” He replied even though she didn’t ask him that.
“And you couldn’t call dad to tell him you were in town?”
“Wait, Uncle Clement is in Illinos?” He asked.
“Of course, he is renovating the structure of the Songa maximum prison facility.”
Now, it made sense to him finally. He could seek Clement’s help to get Kelvin out of prison.
